Tips on Writing a Good Resume,

you Wont get a Job without one!

"Press on. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more

common than unsuccessful women with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." -- Ray Kroc

Why your resume is your most important marketing tool!

You have  found the perfect role, paying 6 figure with frequent travel and ROTA , you are about to write a  resume that will land you that  job, but will you make the effort required to land that role?  75% of applicants don't.

  •  You are up against 300+ candidates. Most have great references, experience, and Mary-Poppins-level resumes.
  •  Will go above and beyond to make the cut?

As a recruitment agency that receives hundreds of resumes a day, I can assure you, you have 5 seconds to make an impression, your resume needs to stand out, be clear, easy to read, suit the role you are applying for and look as though you actually are committed to landing your perfect role.

Did you know that the  Australian Nanny Agency, actually employs a copy writer, to go over every resume before we send to clients. Even though our CRM generates a beautiful resume, we still need our candidates to input the information, and you would be surprised to find out how little  information we actually get from candidates that want top 6 figure roles.

Shockingly, 9 out of 10 resumes have spelling mistakes, bad grammar, poorly constructed sentence's and sometimes just a screen shot of a Facebook message (yes this actually happened for a nanny role paying 6 figures)

You want a 6 figure job, travelling the world, working with royals and celebrities? Make the effort and write a resume that stands out.

MAKE THE EFFORT

"Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle". Napoleon Hill

Your resume has to  present like a person who is educated and motivated enough to have the drive to want to be the best, a person who has invested time and or money into a resume that covers the role and the clients needs. Every role you apply for, you should be re-working your resume to suit that position. As well as updating you resume with your agent monthly and or every time you have added a new job or some training. These are the people that get the high paying roles, those who are committed.

We have 600+ private household staff listed on our books, 80% of those resumes are of date by at least a year, we spend a lot of time requesting for updated resumes.

Personally, I used to spend 30  minutes every day checking, improving my resume when I was searching for elite roles overseas, (maybe it is the Virgo in me) but I was always reflecting how I can make it better. I sent it to friends and family  to proof read, took criticisms and kept trying to make the perfect  format.

Your resume, is your ticket to success. Keep it updated with your agency.

Here is what you need to present to us to get past our copy writer,

before we even send you to a client.

Show your experience.

  •  It will prove you fit the position
  • Research the role and add appropriate experience

How so?

  • If you are going for a nanny position, we do not want to see your hospitality resume, we want to see your childcare experience.
  •  If are applying for a role as a maternity nurse and you have worked as a nurse, we want to see your mother/ baby care experience, not your general rounds.
  • If you are applying as a PT, we want to see you PT experience not your Bunnings job and how fast you packed shelves.
  • It has to be relevant.

Choose the Right Format for a Nanny Resume

I don't know how to tell you this, however, those once-in-a-lifetime roles, expect a well presented relevant resume, 99% of families are registered with more than one agency, they have many resumes to choose from. You have to show you are educated and committed, otherwise your perfect new career will be gone forever.

Why you ask?

  • Because you didn't use a professional resume format, the screen shot you sent or the spelling mistakes or non-relevant information was considered uncommitted and unprofessional.
  •  Parents want to know you pay attention to detail, are serious about your work and you have a high level of standards.
  •  Use a trusted resume layout or pay a resume writer, if you don't know how to find one reach out to us before you send us your resume, so we can advise on the best option to suit your budget.
  • Take a course about resume writing there are many free ones.
  •  Make good use of white space, eye-friendly headings, and clear, legible fonts.
  •  Last, save your great nanny resume as a PDF, as  MS Word resumes can scramble

        during emailing.

Now, lets get on with how to make a resume for a nanny job!

Tip: Check the job offer to make sure PDFs aren’t banned. Some applicant tracking

systems don’t work well with them

Write a Nanny Resume Objective or Summary

  •  A resume summary proves you are perfect for the nanny job with oodles of

         experience.

  •  A resume objective does the same by showing passion, even if you lack

        experience.

How to Write an Objective for a Nanny Resume with No Experience

Tip: Everyone has nanny experience. And anyone can get more, fast

  • If you are a newbie nanny, you can show your passion with an objective statement.
  •  Traditionally, they just state your goal. They don't show experience.

Write a Nanny Experience Description for a Resume

Tip: Don’t let your nanny resume summary or objective give you writer’s block. Write it last, so you’ve got plenty of material

List your last job first.

  • Under it, add 4-6 bullet points that show accomplishments.
  • Tie them into the job description
  • Make them relevant to the role you are applying for.

How to Write a Nanny Resume With No Experience

  • Made schedules?

Also, check online forums where people ask things like, How much do nannies

cost? or What is the best way to find a nanny? House manager, gardener, help needed Those people are on the hunt for you.

 Mention Your Education

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” —Malcolm X

Start with the basics:

  • School Name and Location.
  • Years in School.
  • Degrees.
  • Professional development.
  • Free Training.
  • Volunteer work.
  • Seminars.
  • Online Courses.

Use nanny resume bullet points to prove you fit the job.

references, have them constantly updated, a short email to warn your references you are applying for a job.

  •  Bullet points
  • Make the copy
  • Easy to read

How to Put Skills on a Resume for a Nanny

Tip: Is non-smoking or drinking a skill? 89% of clients say they won’t hire smokers and in the Middle East they don't drink. Mention this if it applies to you.

  • Clients are looking for the right nanny skills and qualities.
  •  Only a few resumes will have them.
  •  Be one of those few.
  •  Read the nanny resume job description. Highlight all the skills you see.
  •  List them on your nanny resume.
  •  Prove the skills by showing them in your experience and education
  • Use  bullet points.

  •  Make it passionate. Share your excitement about the job.
  • learn a detail you like about the parents or referral agency and use it.
  •  Make it tantalizing. Add 1-2 accomplishments to whet the appetite.
  •  use a call to action, as simple as,  love to talk with you about your needs.
  •  Follow up. A thank you note a few days after you submit your resume.

Tip: Don’t put references on a resume

  •  Add Contact.
  • Full Name.
  • Updated Phone Number.

Like this:

 Luca Collins, lucapcollins@gmail.com - 617-756-1644

We say that because nobody wants

KittyPlayFunJaegerBombz49987@yahoo.com - watching their precious little Dennis.

But here is the real nightmare:

The Mclaughlins have got it narrowed down to five live-in nanny resumes, including

yours. But someone added a LinkedIn profile and Twitter handle. The parents check those

out. They love what they see. The other nanny is hired.

So, include your LinkedIn profile, Twitter address, and relevant social media

hangouts. That way employers can dig deeper to see if you align with their family values.

Tip: Tidy up your online presence.
