Legislation to improve Australia’s workplace relations system has received royal assent from the Governor-General.
The Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Act 2022 (the Act) received royal assent on Tuesday 6 December 2022.

Companies advertising jobs with salaries below minimum wage will be fined up to $16,500, under the latest industrial relations update in the Secure Jobs, Better Pay bill.
The rule, which came into effect on Saturday, prohibits employers from listing pay rates that breach the Fair Work Act, or relevant arrangements such as an award rate or enterprise bargaining agreement.
Piece work is exempt from the new rule as pay is based on the amount of work completed and not the hours worked. But job ads for piece work must include any periodic pay rate a worker is entitled to. Employers are also exempt if they have a "reasonable excuse".
The Act amends workplace relations laws relating to bargaining, job security, gender equality, compliance and enforcement, workplace conditions and protections and workplace relations institutions.
